GPA scale
How letter grades and percentages convert to grade points on the 4.0 scale, including weighted GPA for honors, AP and IB classes.
An A is worth 4.0 grade points.

| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 | 3.8 | 4.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 | 3.5 | 4.0 |
| B− | 80–82 | 2.7 | 3.2 | 3.7 |

Percent ranges use the standard scale with + and −. Change the scale above to see your school's ranges.
Percentage to GPA
Anything below 60% is an F, worth 0.0.
How the 4.0 scale works
Each letter grade is worth a number of grade points: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1 and F = 0. A plus adds 0.3 and a minus takes 0.3 away, so a B+ is 3.3 and a B− is 2.7. Your GPA is the average of those points across your classes.
Weighted and unweighted GPA
An unweighted GPA uses the 4.0 scale for every class. A weighted GPA gives harder classes extra points. Many high schools add 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, so an A in an AP class counts as 5.0. That's why weighted GPAs can go above 4.0.
High school and college differences
Some colleges count an A+ as 4.33 and use thirds for plus and minus grades (A− 3.67, B+ 3.33). Others don't give A+ grades at all. Your transcript or student handbook shows which one your school uses, and you can switch the converter to match.
Questions
What is a 95 on a 4.0 scale?
On the standard scale a 95% is an A, worth 4.0. A 90 is an A− (3.7), an 85 is a B (3.0) and an 80 is a B− (2.7). Type any percentage into the converter to check it on your school's scale.
What is an A− on a 4.0 scale?
3.7 on most scales. Schools that use thirds count it as 3.67.
What does a 4.0 GPA mean?
A 4.0 unweighted GPA means straight A's: every class graded A or A+. With a weighted GPA, honors and AP classes can push it above 4.0.
What is a 5.0 GPA scale?
It's a weighted scale where the hardest classes (usually AP or IB) give 5 points for an A instead of 4. A 5.0 GPA means straight A's in those classes.
Is a 3.0 GPA a B?
Yes. A 3.0 is a B average on the 4.0 scale. A 3.5 is halfway between a B+ and an A−, and a 2.0 is a C average.
How do I convert my GPA to a 4.0 scale?
If your school uses percentages, convert each class grade with the table above and average the points. For a GPA on another scale, a rough estimate is your GPA ÷ the top of your scale × 4. Colleges usually recalculate GPAs from your transcript in their own way.
