How the EZ grader works

An EZ grader is the sliding cardboard chart teachers have used for decades: find the number of questions, read across to the number wrong, and the score is printed there. This one does the same in your browser for any test up to 500 questions, with the letter grade on your school's scale.

Score = (Questions − Wrong) ÷ Questions × 100

For a 20-question test with 4 wrong: (20 − 4) ÷ 20 × 100 = 80%, a B− on the standard scale.

Questions

How many can I miss on a 20-question test?

To pass at 70% you can miss up to 6. For a B (83%) you can miss 3, and for an A (93%) only 1. Change the number of questions above to see any other test.

What is an EZ grader?

A grading chart that maps the number of wrong answers to a percentage, so teachers can grade a stack of tests without doing the division for each one. "EZ grader" and "easy grader" are names for the same tool.

Can I print a grading chart?

Yes. Set the number of questions, then press "Print or save as PDF". Only the chart is printed, without the menu or ads. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print window to keep a copy.

How do half points work?

Turn on "Half points" to count half-wrong answers. The number wrong then moves in steps of 0.5, and the chart lists every half step: 4.5 wrong out of 20 is 77.5%.

Can I use my school's grading scale?

Yes. Open "Grading scale" to switch to a plain 90/80/70/60 scale or a 7-point scale, or type your school's own cutoffs. Your choice is saved in this browser and used across the site.
